Process

How it works

A simple, no-pressure way to understand what your existing policies cover — and what they don't.

01

Tell us about your situation

Quick questions about your home, vehicles, and lifestyle — no policy upload, no personal details until you decide to proceed.

02

Learn what's commonly excluded

We share what specialty agents typically see in standard policies — generic education, not analysis of your specific policy.

03

Connect with a licensed agent

When you're ready, we match you with a vetted specialty insurance agent licensed in your state who can review your specific situation.

Coverage Gaps

Common coverage gaps

A few of the exclusions specialty agents see most often in standard policies.

Electric bikes & off-road youth vehicles

Most homeowners policies exclude liability for e-bikes and youth dirt bikes — especially higher-powered models or those used by minors. Specialty policies are typically used to fill this gap.

Short-term rentals (Airbnb, VRBO)

Hosting short-term guests can void standard homeowners coverage for guest injuries or property damage. Specialty STR policies are typically required.

Recreational drones

Whether for hobby use or Part 107 commercial work, drones often fall outside homeowners liability — particularly for property damage caused to third parties.

Personal cyber liability

Identity theft, smart-home device hacks, deepfake fraud, and family cyberbullying are increasingly excluded from standard homeowners — and growing fast as exposures.

Watercraft (boats, jet skis)

Most homeowners only cover small watercraft under specific limits. Anything above those typically needs a separate policy or endorsement.

Home-based businesses & side hustles

Client visits, inventory, equipment, and income from Etsy sales, consulting, reselling, or gig work are commonly excluded from standard homeowners policies.

Equine & horse-owner liability

Owning, boarding, training, or instructing on horses creates liability exposures that homeowners and umbrella policies typically don't fully address.

Dog-breed liability

Many homeowners policies exclude specific breeds entirely or cap liability payouts well below typical injury settlements.

Rideshare & delivery driving

Personal auto policies typically exclude losses while driving for Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, or Instacart. A separate endorsement or commercial policy is often needed.

About

Built for the gaps standard policies miss.

CoverageScout exists because standard homeowners and umbrella policies were written before e-bikes, short-term rentals, drones, side businesses, and personal cyber threats were household realities. The gaps between what standard policies cover and what your life actually contains are real — and growing.

We're an educational matchmaking service. We help you understand the kinds of exclusions specialty insurance agents see in standard policies every day, and when you're ready, we connect you with a licensed agent in your state who specializes in the coverage you're researching.

We are not an insurance carrier. We do not issue policies, bind coverage, or provide legal or insurance advice. All quotes and binding decisions are made by licensed agents and the carriers they represent. We earn revenue when consumers we educate connect with our partner agents — never from selling policies ourselves.
